Walk the Great Wall of China
Centuries after its construction, China's Great Wall remains one of humankind's engineering marvels. At over 21,000 km (13,048 mi) in length, the Wall is a trip in and of itself. You won't tackle the whole thing on this ten-day trip, but you'll return home with a deeper understanding of the life that goes on around and upon it. The Beijing-to-Beijing route will take you to small villages that have stood for centuries in the shadow of this massive tribute to human will and introduce you to the cuisine, culture, and history that make this one of China's most captivating attractions. Explore Beijing's Forbidden City and Tiananmen Square, trek along the Great Wall, sleep in rural villages, enjoy a traditional tea ceremony and a tai chi lesson
Great Wall entrances and trek (6 days). Forbidden City and Tiananmen Square guided tour. Tai chi lesson. Tea ceremony. Chinese cooking class. Luggage transfer on every hiking day.
Day 1 Beijing
Arrive at any time.
Day 2 Beijing (1B)
Enjoy a guided tour of the Forbidden City and Tiananmen Square. Partake in an included tea art lesson with a traditional tea ceremony.
Day 3 Beijing/Gubeikou (1B, 1D)
Transfer to Mutianyu Great Wall. Visit Mutianyu Great Wall then drive to Gubeikou in the afternoon.
Day 4 Gubeikou (1B, 1L, 1D)
In the morning, stop for a tai chi lesson to stretch your legs before the hike. Trek around Gubeikou to visit sections of wall are in very different conditions then Mutianyu. Head back and staying in the farmer's village for the night.
Day 5 Gubeikou/Jinshanling (1B, 1L, 1D)
Continue along the Great Wall, hiking from Gubeikou towards Jinshanling. Today is the longest day of walking, with the trail offering chances to see the restoration of the Wall along the way. Sleep in a guesthouse at the foot of the Wall itself.
Day 6 Jinshanling (1B, 1L, 1D)
Continue hiking along Jinshanling Great Wall. The Wall is better restored here, but the trek is no less spectacular. Finish hiking around in the afternoon. Free to explore the area.
Day 7 Jinshanling/Huangyaguan (1B, 1L, 1D)
Drive to Huangyaguan Great Wall in Tian Jin after breakfast. Enjoy the last day trekking along the Wall at Huangyaguan, named for the bright yellow flowers that appear in this region. Spend the night in a guesthouse.
Day 8 Huangyaguan/Beijing (1B)
Explore Qing Tombs on the way back to Beijing. Arrive in Beijing around noon and enjoy half day free time.
Day 9 Beijing (1B)
Enjoy a free day to relax in Beijing or to explore more of the sights of the city.
